Please take the time to consider your ailment before you make an appointment,  your ailment may be able to be treated by the following clinicians

Consultations for clinicians are by telephone consultation initially, for on the day appointments. To make your appointment, please telephone 731331 Monday to Friday.

Please note as a training practice you may have a Medical Student sitting in on your consultation or you may be seen by a Medical Student.  You will be informed of this before hand and will have the option of declining this. 

Each clinician has a ratio of their appointments as pre-bookable telephone slots and face to face consultations for up to seven days in advance.  Please phone 731331 to enquire if the clinician has availability to book a pre-bookable slot.

If you feel that you require an urgent telephone appointment, please make this clear to the receptionist. Every effort will be made to give you a telephone appointment as soon as possible, this will be with the duty doctor.

Whilst we have on the day availability as well as pre-bookable, Every Monday and days after a public holiday are allocated as all on the day slots and no pre-bookable slots will be available on these days.

The receptionists are your first point of contact with the practice and they are there to help you and will endeavour to deal with your enquiries as efficiently as possible.

To enable your ailment to be triaged (reviewed by a clinician) please provide as much medical  information as possible about your ailment.   All the information received is treated in the strictest confidence. All members of the team are bound by the same confidentiality regulations. Please be patient with our staff who are often working under considerable pressure.

Should we reach capacity for appointments on a given day you will be notified of this and will be directed to access e-consult, be offered a pre-bookable slot or to call back the next day or if urgent be directed to other services. e.g 111 etc.

Extended Hours 

We off extended hours telephone consultations.  These take place on an alternate These take place throughout the week. They are provided for those who might not be able to make an appointment at routine times (8am to 6pm).  The consultations (initially by telephone) will take place either 7.30am to 8am or 6pm to 6.30pm.  Please ask at reception for availability.

Home Visits

If possible please try to telephone reception before 10am if you require a home visit.

A Doctor, Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be any clinician who is competent to resolve your ailment, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the surgery.

To make an appointment

it is recommend to phone early morning to book a telephone slot with one of the clinicians, Monday to Friday.  There are a dedicated number of appointments allocated to each clinician, if you are unsuccessfully in booking an appointment you may be asked to call back the next day or offered a pre-bookable slot for up to seven days in advance.

  Do you require a routine appointment?

If you require an appointment for a problem which is not urgent, our reception staff will arrange one that suits.  Due to the part-time commitment of some of our clinicians  however, you may have to wait several days for the clinician of your choice.

  Why is the call passed to a clinician?

The clinician will contact the patient by telephone to speak to the patient (or carer in some circumstances) and ascertain further details about the problem and based on the information provided, will make a clinical decision whether to:

• Give the patient a face to face appointment that day with a suitable clinician
• Give the patient an appointment at a time in the future with a particular clinician
• Give the patient an appointment  with another member of the primary healthcare team eg: practice nurse or pass the request to the health visitor or district nurse.
• Give the patient advice regarding the management of their problem.
• Organise a prescription for collection,  to alleviate their problem.

Does this depend on the time of day I phone for a request?

No – if you contact the surgery any time between 8am and 6pm for an urgent or on the day appointment, your call will be treated in the same way.  You may be asked to call the surgery the next day if our capacity has been reached, in some cases we will take a record of your ailment that will be reviewed by the duty doctor and if they feel necessary they will make contact.

Video Appointments (Near Me)

This practice offers NHS Near Me video appointments, powered by the Attend Anywhere system. 

NHS Near Me Information

NHS Near Me is a video consulting service which allows patients to attend their appointment from the comfort of their own home or wherever is convenient, using their own computer, smartphone or tablet device.

To use this service you must have a booked video appointment with the practice. Your clinician or booking staff will be able to advise you whether a video appointment is suitable for you.

How to make a Near Me call

Step 1

All video calls must be pre arranged with the surgery. If you have spoken to a GP, Nurse or member of reception you will be told when to log in to the website to start your video consultation.

Once a time has been agreed open the Chrome or Safari browser. Copy the website address – https://nhsattend.vc/broughtyferryhc On your service’s website you should see a “start video call” button - click this button.

Step 2

The system checks you have everything in place to make a Near Me call. All calls involve an internet check. The system checks you have a speaker, microphone and video: on some devices this is automated, or you may be asked to click “continue” or “yes”. If asked, allow access to your microphone and video

Step 3

Enter your details: name, date of birth and the phone number where you can be reached during the call. Tick the small box to agree the terms and conditions. Your service will then give you some information: please read this and press “start call” again to continue.

You will then sit in a virtual waiting room until your call is picked up by the GP or Nurse.

The practice is commencing text reminder service for all patients with appointments with the GP or Practice Nurse team

Any patient wishing to receive a text reminder must ensure their mobile number is up to date with the practice and give consent to receive text messages.

Please complete one of these forms  and hand in to reception for your records to be updated.

Alternatively check your mobile number with the receptionist when next you speak with them and advise you wish to sign up for appointment text reminders.

Travel Clinic

From 01/04/2022, Broughty Family Healthcare will no longer provide a travel clinic.  NHS Tayside will provide all travel advice / vaccinations (if required).  Patients requiring travel advice should click HERE to be taken to the Fit for Travel website which details whether you require vaccinations for any countries you are visiting.  If you determine you do require vaccinated, you should either contact NHS Tayside by emailing:

From 20/04/2022, Broughty Family Healthcare will no longer provide any vaccinations.  Patients who believe they require a vaccination such as a Flu vaccination, Covid Vaccineatin Shingles vaccination, Pneumococcal vaccination or any other vaccination (excluding travel vaccines) should contact NHS Tayside to discuss further.  Patients can either email NHS Tayside by emailing:

Occupational Health Vaccinations

From 20/04/2022, Broughty Family Healthcare will no longer provide any vaccinations.  Patients who believe they require a vaccination a recommended by their Employer,  this should be arranged at an Occupational Service Provider or will have to attend a Private Provider as these are not generally available on the NHS
